Um documentário engagé, que compara a indústria da saúde dos EUA com os sistemas médicos do Reino Unido, França, Canadá e Cuba.
O filme vale bem o seu tempo e dinheiro, pelos relatos verídicos e pungentes, pelos contrastes inteligentes e irónicos e… pela deliciosa imagem do realizador a carregar a sua roupa suja em direcção ao Congresso dos EUA, para que a lavem lá…
Perde por caricaturar os franceses, como se a sua vida fosse uma mistura perfeita de participação cívica, fraternidade e hedonismo (antes fosse), filmando hospitais 'perfeitos' por entre o repuxar dos clichés das 5 semanas de férias pagas e do deleite do vinho tinto; por afinal apenas tocar ao de leve no quebra-cabeças do financiamento dos sistemas de saúde (e sociais), que tantos problemas de sustentabilidade enfrentam hoje na Europa; por não dar voz ao lado das seguradoras em julgamento, básica condição de equidade de um documentário; por, logo depois de apresentar o devastador (mas potencialmente demagógico) exemplo dos cuidados médicos disponibilizados aos prisioneiros na base americana de Guantanamo, acabar por se deixar manchar durante a visita a Cuba, país suspeito de ter um interesse especial em se fazer contrastar positivamente com os EUA e de não hesitar em se desviar da verdade.
O tema é tão importante e os exemplos tão marcantes que um relato factual bastaria, seria mesmo mais eficaz a transmitir a mensagem, dispensando o toque panfletário e o repisar de ideias que - embora caras a Moore e importantes para pintar uma imagem da América - acabam por não se integrar suficientemente no filme: o controlo dos políticos pelo dinheiro, a lavagem cerebral pelos media, a opressão do povo pelos poderosos; tudo contrastando com a primordial bondade e coragem interior do americano médio.
À saída, no fim do filme, interessante notar que o burburinho é mais alto do que habitual. Afinal, gostamos de ouvir e discutir aquilo que nos reconforta e reforça as opiniões que já estabelecemos; e é fácil atacar os EUA, tão cultural e materialmente presentes e influentes nas nossas vidas e sonhos.
E tão capazes do pior e do melhor, do errado e do certo. Como Churchill disse, pode-se sempre confiar que os americanos tomarão a atitude correcta... depois de terem tentado tudo o resto. Talvez o mesmo se venha a passar no sistema de saúde. E que ainda venhamos a aprender com eles.
Mas não é ainda o caso.

Cracóvia
Uma praça central enorme, que não parece, por cheia de gente e esplanadas e fachadas.
E sorrisos de meninas bonitas de olhos azuis.
Como sopa, é quente e picante. Adequadamente, vem do chamado tacho do diabo.
Avancei para leste e os passeios alargaram-se para dar espaço a canteiros entre os edifícios e a rua. Nas zonas residenciais mais novas, estão descuidados, em sintonia com a tinta que cai das paredes, que fazem com as janelas amplas um plano único.
Este pedaço lembra um outro, em S. Petersburgo.
